One of my friends' mom HATES rats. And so when ever she comes over to my house, her mom forbids her to go anywhere near my rats. And when Ever I say something like "I wish people didn't hate rats so much" She starts telling me that rats started the plague, and killed thousands of people! The times when she did say this, i never really knew what to say. But the next time she does, I am going to tell her that it Wasn't the rats fault! And rats suffered just as much, maybe even more. It was really the humans fault, because people threw out there Wast every where. And the rats came because it was there only source of food. Then the fleas who had the plague went on to the rats, and thus started the plague.
Its Amazing how blind people can be to the fact that rats aren't bad D:
One Time I was at my friends house, it was breakfast and I was telling her about something that my rats did, and then her mom kinda yelled at me to stop it because it was breakfast! she was acting as though the talk about rats at breakfast would make people puke!!! Haha!
They were NOT around when it hit. Animals that didn't exist in those places back then can't be responsible for squat.
Also, the claim that rats are awful because they killed "thousands of people" is illogical. People have killed far many more rats, poisoned them, electrocuted them, drowned them, burned them, killed little squeaking babies. So if there's an argument on who did what (and how ridiculous is it to blame wild animals for their actions, that was not even in their control or in their knowledge, while humans fully knew what they were doing) rats still come out on top. Humans not only cruelly torture and kill rats everyday in labs, raise them in rat mills, feed them to reptiles, kill them in nature, they also destroy the earth, cause the extinction of species just about everyday, and actively create new diseases. So honestly, I don't see where a single human can get off disrespecting another species. Cockroaches are more respectable than a human being.
I encourage you to print out our brochure to help educate people who are highly misinformed about rats, not only is it full of great information, the mere fact that there enough people to stand up for rats is enough for any "main stream thinker" to take notice and reconsider.
I met rats who never saw me before, and the first thing they did was lick and tickle and try to get in my sleeves. How awesome is that?
I also think they should all be sat down to watch Ratatouille. Preferably with constant feedback on how cool rats actually are.
